  • Quick and economical mitred stock

    Independent steel stockholder Hall & Pickles has installed a circular saw at its Poynton facility that allows any length of stock to be mitred to any angle quickly and economically, irrespective of batch size. 

  • MTL puts in UK's biggest bevel laser cutting system

    MTL Group has invested in a bevel laser cutting system with a 20m by 3.2m cutting area, believed to be the largest in the UK, with the aim of attracting major contracts from global OEMs in the defence, rail, recycling, shipbuilding and related industries. The Messer system can cut material up to 25mm thick. 

  • Katmex gets the cream

    Katmex, a major supplier of fabricated components and assemblies to construction equipment manufacturers, has boosted material utilisation by 70% after uprating the CAD/CAM software for its profiling machines. Parts are sorted by material grade and thickness to quickly create nests for each sheet to meet customers' delivery requirements.

    Despite signs the downturn hitting machine tool sales, The Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) predicts that good levels of activity in some end-user sectors indicate that the size of the downturn could be tempered.
