Over 150 exhibitors will be presenting a wide array of products and services at the forthcoming Northern Manufacturing Technology 2008 exhibition. The show will be held at the Hallam Arena Sheffield on 1 and 2 October and include CAD systems and OEM products, machine tools, tooling, quality control systems and a wide range of machining, fabrication and finishing subcontract services.
Running alongside the exhibition, the Manufacturing Technology Seminar programme comprises 12 one-hour long individual sessions. Topics include cutting energy costs, Six Sigma, lean manufacturing techniques and the new materials and surface coatings can be the fastest, most cost-effective way of improving product performance. The seminars are free, but places are limited by the seating arrangements and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Details of the complete seminar programme can be found on the website where delegates can reserve places and book free tickets to the exhibition.

Claro Precision Engineering has a programme of continuous capital investment and training. Last year, for example, around 50% of the workforce undertook further training and qualifications. Recent investments include two Bridgeport machining centres, one a four axis version and the other five axis. Like previous investments, including a twin spindle CNC lathe, the overriding objective is to achieve one-hit machining for shorter deliveries and enhanced accuracy.
The Engineering Industries Association is recognised in Government circles as the voice for small to medium sized engineering companies based in the UK. Regular meetings allow member to exchange details of capabilities and identify potential suppliers. Another important role for the EIA is keeping members abreast of new legislation and the legal implications of directives coming out of the Brussels. Through UK Trade & Investment it also provides access to grants and the services of Business Links.
Raynes Precision Engineering built its reputation on machined parts. To meet a growing demand for a one-stop-shop service it now also offers CNC laser cutting backed up by bending and fabrication. The laser is a 3 kW machine with a 3 by 1.5 m bed. There is also an 80 tonne, seven-axis press brake with 2m bed length. Both MIG and TIG welding is offered with 17 MIG machines available with continuous wire feed and up to 450 amp capacity.
Accurate Cutting Services is covers all aspects of cutting from subcontract services to supply of new machines; all forms of blades to maintenance services. As part of the subcontract services, it has recently installed a heavy-duty gantry saw that can handle sections up to 2,000 mm square. It also has production saws for volume billet production that can maintain a billet length accuracy of 0.25mm. This can make significant contributions to productivity by reducing machining time and improving material utilisation.
