Light alloy casting specialist
Midas, combines traditional patternmaking expertise with the latest CADCAM and CNC techniques
Bedford-based Midas Pattern Company specialises in producing patterns for complex thin-walled castings in light alloys including aluminum and magnesium.
Its customers span a range of industry sectors including autosport and aerospace and companies wanting one-off castings for the manufacture of rotational mould tools.
The company offers a complete foundry patternmaking service including procuring and managing the supply of castings, heat treatment, impregnation and machining. Patterns and tools are produced using a combination of hardwood, composites, resin and metal. When required an in-house painting service is also available to ensure a perfect match with other parts.
Midas, which recently celebrated its twentieth anniversary, combines traditional patternmaking expertise with the latest CADCAM and CNC techniques to provide accurate prototype and production pattern equipment that is ideally suited for foundry use. It has six CNC machines, with a maximum machining envelope of 2.5m by 1.5m by 1.25m, meaning that patterns can quite often be produced in days. In the case of rotational mould tools it is quite usual for castings of 2m by 1m to be produced.
