Grinding out rotors

Inca Geometric has won a cylindrical grinding contract for three pairs of compressor scrolls a week which also includes the checking and fitting of balance weights.
Each pair of cast iron compressor scrolls is 244 mm diameter by 1,250 mm in length and has opposed mating scroll forms that meet in the centre. As part of the highly precise cylindrical grinding process, the outside diameter has to be maintained within a tolerance of + 0.01 mm with a precise taper reducing the diameter by 0.03 mm for a distance of 70 mm from each end to accommodate expansion during the duty cycle of the rolls.
Each of the end faces have to be square to the centre line within 0.01 mm TIR and the two spigot bearing diameters at each end of the roll have to be concentric to the OD within 0.01 mm TIR.
