Apprentice Elliott Sanders will be learning his trade on Rovic's new CNC lathe

A newly installed CNC lathe at Poole-based Rovic Engineering is already up and running producing high tensile components for Ocean Yacht systems in Christchurch.

Ocean Yacht Systems are world leaders in the design, engineering and manufacturing of state of the art rigging, hydraulics and thruster solutions for the global Superyacht market.

The new XYZ Pro Turn 555 lathe is designed for small and medium batch manufacturing. It will not only be used by skilled production staff, it will also be used to train one of Rovic’s apprentices, Elliott Sanders.

Tim Denison, Rovic’s Managing Director, said: “This is a fantastic addition to Rovic’s capability and means we can continue to deliver what our customers want – high spec, advanced engineering components for a wide range of industries. This includes all aspects of production, design and project management through to manufacture.

“2012 is the Olympics year and the CNC lathe will be an Olympic challenge for Elliott. However I have every confidence that his training will enable him to become an expert and to become a key part of our one-stop shop service for all companies working in precision engineering and special purpose machinery production.”

“Ocean Yacht Systems are delighted that Rovic have made this investment in the new machinery,” comments Ian Crowden, Technical Director of Thrusters at Ocean Yacht Systems. “We have worked with Rovic for a number of years now, and they have always provided us with an efficient service combined with a fantastic quality of product. It always fills us with confidence when our suppliers show the same level of commitment to their facilities and training as much as we do.”

Elliott Sanders said: “Rovic is at the forefront of engineering and I’m pleased with how my training has developed in the past year. I’ve learned how to use a wide variety of machines and the large CNC lathe will be my challenge for 2012. This is a very exciting time to be part of the company.”

Rovic provides a turnkey engineering capability and project management as well as producing machined components in most materials for its make-to-print customers. It also has a special purpose machinery design and production capability.

Rovic’s machining service ranges from the manufacture of small items such as a single keyway to machining large complex precision components. Its machine shop offers a reconditioning service on small units and the complete manufacture of components and special purpose machines.

Rovic also offers on-site refurbishment, repair and routine preventative maintenance. Design and manufacture of components and special purpose machinery can also be undertaken.

Rovic Engineering is accredited to ISO 9001 with its scope including; precision and general engineering, design and manufacture of components and special purpose machinery, repair and maintenance.
