Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced that it will be creating 1000 new jobs at its Solihull manufacturing plant – giving the UK’s automotive industry a much needed boost.

This is the most ambitious growth plan in the company’s history and will increase the workforce by 25%. JLR is already the UK’s largest employer in automotive design, engineering and manufacturing.

The company state that the new positions are being created as part of a multi billion pound investment in product creation.

The Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) has said that this is another shot in the arm for the West Midlands.

Rachel Eade, auto cluster manager at MAS West Midlands, said: “For every job created at JLR, it potentially creates a further 3.6 jobs in the supply chain”.

She added: “Some people are missing the fact that 75% of new business won has been in export markets and this is significantly helping to strengthen the UK’s manufacturing output”.

The jobs will mean new opportunities for local suppliers and MAS’ role will be to work with them on exploring these possibilities.
