Southern Manufacturing is the first industrial show of the year and continues to enjoy strong support from engineering enterprises across the south and west, not to mention an increasing number from further afield.

Even as the industry stood on the brink of recession last year, the 2009 show was as well-supported and well-attended as ever – a tangible indication of the event’s perennial importance to manufacturing business in the region

“Many of our exhibitors return year-in, year-out and view it very much as their show,” says show director Phil Valentine. “Even when times are hard – as they were last year – this familiarity gives the show a resilience and characteristically buoyant atmosphere that’s quite unlike any other event in the country.

“The show is very much focused on the needs of small to medium-sized businesses;” comments Valentine, “It’s regionally based, so its very relevant; it’s reasonably priced so it’s accessible to a very wide range of businesses and its very easy to get to.”

“The FIVE site is close to the M3 and is well-served by public transport so it is exceptionally easy to attend; we have free entry and free on-site parking so visitors can fit a visit to the show into their normal working day.”

This year, with confidence slowly ebbing back into manufacturing, Valentine is upbeat that Southern Manufacturing’s return to FIVE, Farnborough on February 10th & 11th will once again provide a focal point for engineering SMEs and a springboard for a further recovery of fortunes in 2010.

The show is actually three shows in one: Southern Manufacturing, Southern Electronics and Auto-Aero – the newest section of the show, dedicated to specialist automotive/aerospace precision engineering. The co-location of three such closely-related events means that it is possible for visitors to see an extraordinarily broad range of products and services in a remarkably short period of time.

Entry to the show and its famous technical seminar sessions is completely free, and FIVE Farnborough offers plentiful free car parking, superb access by road, rail or air, and an excellent selection of local hotels and restaurants to make your visit as enjoyable as it is productive.
