Yorkshire-based Sherburn Metalwork Ltd, part of WEC Group Ltd, has invested in a brand new state-of-the-art shot blasting facility to improve lead times for customers.

The company said that bringing the shot blasting process in-house will significantly improve lead times for customers. It will also enable the company to pursue new business opportunities including volume orders and large batch quantities in a range of other industries.

Bryan Bentley, general manager, Sherburn Metalwork, said: “The new facility means we can now blast parts in-house before beginning the wet painting or powder coating process, which we also offer at WEC Group’s Darwen HQ.”

“Our one-stop-shop manufacturing service is something many companies don’t offer, so this new investment will improve turnaround times for customers.”

Complementing the division’s existing wet painting facility, the new £200,000 Wheelabrator air blast room has the capability shot blast components up to 15m long x 4.7m wide x 4m high, ideally suited for large scale components.

The WEC Group has made over £11m of investment throughout the business over the past 18 months. This includes investments in state-of-the-art capital equipment such as a fully automated six metre bed laser cutting machine, CNC machining and waterjet cutting technology.

Sherburn Metalwork predominantly provides fabrication, sheet metalwork and robotic welding services to the automotive industry. This includes the manufacture of bus frames and chassis to parts for various trailer and body work manufacturers, including box vans and refrigerated trucks.
