Composite alternative reduces costs
Dansk Sintermetal will show a range of components demonstrating its capabilities at Subcon
Sintered components produced from Soft Magnetic Composites (SMC) remove the need to use laminated iron for products such as stator cores for electric motors. The result, says Dansk Sintermetal A/S is more design freedom and a lower cost.
The SMC components are manufactured from an iron powder where each individual powder particle is coated with a thin, isolating layer. Using this material allows the production of soft magnetic components with a low eddy current loss and a 3-dimensional flux. An example could be powder pressed stator cores for electro motors, which traditionally are manufactured in laminated iron. Components powder pressed in SMC give new design possibilities and a lower price.
Dansk Sintermetal A/S was founded in 1959 and exports 85 percent of its production and has many years of experience in German and the Scandinavian markets.
Sintered components are made according to customer specifications, and a wide variety of shapes and sizes will be on display at the Subcon – demonstrating the company’s ability to produce parts with complex geometries and special properties. The company explains that, while sintered components are normally considered to be best suited to large scale production, short runs – from a few thousand a year upwards – are also one of its specialities.
The items exhibited will include several components for mechanical door locks – where there are often high demands on mechanical properties. Also on show will be sintered components for couplings and brakes, pneumatic and electrical hand tools and welding equipment.
Subcon 2009 takes place at the NEC Birmingham from 9 to 11 June.and will give buyers the chance to source all types of subcontract manufacturing services from the UK’s biggest showcase of national and international suppliers.
