To support the quality requirements of customers, particularly in the oil and gas sector, Leeds Bronze has invested in quality assurance equipment including a Mitutoyo CMM and a Niton X-ray spectrum analyser.

Sales & marketing director Sean Eley says: “ We are expanding and are back up to operating at higher than pre-recession levels and we have taken on new personnel. Oil and gas is still a relatively small segment of our business, but it has been a significant part of our growth – with business mainly coming from the UK and the Middle East.”

The company offers both a stockholding and a manufacturing facility for bronze and copper-based alloys. And although it specialises the machining of bearings and bushes, it also manufactures many other components in copper based alloys. It also manufactures and stocks a wide range of bi-metal and self-lubricating bearings.

The company’s machining facilities include CNC and conventional lathes, vertical borers up to 900mm diameter, four and five axis CNC machining centres and large milling machines.

“A lot of our customers don’t machine bronze very often so aren’t familiar with it, so it is an attractive proposition for us to be able to machine it for them,” says Mr Eley. “Whether they require 10 or 1000 pieces the can be assured that every one will be to specification and there is no risk of them producing rejects in what is a high-value material.”
